This historical building was the Hokkaido Government Library (completed in 1926). It has been renovated into a confectionery store. The original south and west exterior walls were preserved, while the opposite side of the exterior wall has been re-built and is part of a retail store.
Tadao Ando was in charge of the basic design, wich received the 2016 Good Design Award and the 29th Hokkaido Red Brick Architecture Award Grand Prize.
